From 13 Women Around a Lunch Table to a Thriving Community: How The PowHer House is Redefining Women’s Networking in Delhi

When Ekta Kalsi stepped away from the corporate world to focus on her family, she never imagined that the pause would eventually lead to the creation of one of Delhi’s growing communities for women professionals and entrepreneurs.

Having spent years with leading organisations including The Times of India, FedEx, and Shaadi.com, Kalsi always carried an entrepreneurial spark. While she had ideas, ambition and the desire to build something meaningful, she realised that one essential ingredient was missing—a trusted network.

“I realised that many women were in the same situation. They had talent, experience and dreams, but often lacked the right platform, visibility and support system to take the next step,” she says.

That realisation became the foundation of The PowHer House, a women-led networking community that focuses on creating genuine relationships before business opportunities.

A Journey That Began with Just 13 Women

The community’s first networking lunch in August 2024 was an intimate gathering of just 13 women.

“There was no grand business plan or expectation that it would become what it is today,” recalls Kalsi. “It was simply a space where women could meet, exchange ideas and support one another.”

What followed surprised even its founder.

Word spread organically through member experiences rather than aggressive marketing. Today, The PowHer House has grown into a community of over 200 women entrepreneurs and professionals, hosting 23 networking meetups in less than two years.

Beyond Networking, Towards Meaningful Relationships

In a city like Delhi, where networking events often revolve around exchanging business cards and elevator pitches, The PowHer House has attempted to create something different.

Instead of transactional interactions, the community encourages authentic conversations, collaborative learning and lasting relationships. Members are encouraged to connect on a personal level before exploring professional collaborations.

The result has been a community where business partnerships develop naturally through trust rather than formal introductions.

Creating Opportunities That Matter

The growth of The PowHer House is reflected not only in its numbers but also in the stories emerging from within the community.

Members have secured new clients, discovered collaboration partners, found mentors, landed speaking opportunities and built friendships that extend beyond business.

Perhaps the most significant transformation, according to Kalsi, is seeing women who initially walked into meetings with hesitation gradually become confident enough to introduce themselves, present their ventures and inspire newer members.

“For me, the biggest success isn’t just community growth. It’s watching women begin to believe in themselves because they’ve found a supportive environment,” she says.

Building Trust Before Scale

Growing a women-led community has also brought its own challenges.

Kalsi believes that communities cannot be built through marketing alone.

“People return because of the experience they have. Consistency, authenticity and listening to members have been far more important than rapid expansion,” she says.

As membership continues to grow, preserving the sense of belonging remains one of her biggest priorities.

Her goal, she says, is simple: every woman attending a PowHer House event should feel welcomed, included and valued, regardless of where she is in her professional journey.

Looking Beyond Delhi

The PowHer House now has its sights set on a larger national footprint.

Over the next few years, Kalsi plans to expand the community into multiple Indian cities, strengthen its digital presence, introduce structured learning programmes and create partnerships that can support women entrepreneurs at different stages of their journeys.

She believes that access to the right network can significantly influence a woman’s entrepreneurial success.

“When women genuinely support each other, opportunities multiply. If we can help women grow their businesses, build confidence and step into leadership roles, we’ll be contributing to a much larger movement,” she says.

A Legacy of Confidence

For Kalsi, success will not be measured solely by the number of members or cities The PowHer House reaches.

Instead, she hopes the community will be remembered for the confidence it instilled in women who joined seeking direction, support or belonging.

“If years from now someone says that joining The PowHer House changed their journey, that would be the greatest legacy we could hope to create,” she says.

In a rapidly evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem, where women continue to seek meaningful professional networks, The PowHer House is positioning itself not merely as another networking platform, but as a community built on collaboration, trust and shared growth.
